At Bridges we practice believers baptism by immersion. The accounts of baptisms in the Bible follow the pattern of repentance then belief in Jesus Christ followed by baptism. We do not baptize infants of small children because they do not have the ability to place faith in Jesus Christ. We baptize people who've repented of their sin and placed their faith in Jesus Christ.

The way or mode we use to baptize people is immersion: completely submerging under water. We use this mode for several reasons. First the Greek word translated as baptism actually means "to dip" or "to immerse". The term is used of to describe what happens when a cloth is dipped into dye to color the cloth. Second, immersion baptism fits the descriptions of baptism in the Bible. Finally, immersion baptism illustrates dying with Jesus Christ by going under the water and rising with Jesus Christ by coming up out of the water.
